"Parable of the Noble man’s servants- Luke 19:11-27"

In Luke 19:11-27 we read about a noble man who went away to be crowned as the king of the land where he was living. The citizens tried to stop the coronation because they did not like him. He called ten of his servants and gave some money while he left and asked them to do business till he returned.

On his return he wanted to know how much every man had gained by trading. The first one had invested the money and got more which he handed over to the master. He was commended and the whole money was given to him by his master. The second one who had received a little less than the first man, had also made some profit and handed it over to the master. The money was given back to him but he did not receive the verbal commendation. The third one did not do anything but had kept the money given to him safe in a handkerchief. What he had was taken and was given to the first man. The citizens who rejected the noble man were killed.

There are three groups of people. The first man might have taken greater risks. Jesus had asked us to share the gospel. The word of God that is given to us is like the money that was given to the servants. How best we invest it to win souls for the Kingdom is made obvious by the results. The man who took greater risks was commended. The second man’s risk might not have been so great as that of the first one. Although he was rewarded, verbal commendation was not given. .The first two servants represent those who obey God and try to do something to win people for Him.

The third one did not share the good news and information about salvation. His joy which was not shared died within himself. His life was not fruitful. He was so bothered about his own security and refused to invest his time and talent to bring joy to others and his master. He did not do what would have pleased his master. Doesn’t he resemble the older brother in the parable of the Prodigal son who could not do what his father would have liked? The third one represents those who do not obey God. Unless we love a person we can’t obey. Such people abstain from anything that might involve risk though they may be willing to serve. They are not destroyed though they are not rewarded.

Finally the citizens totally rejected the master .They are the people who do not want to accept the kingship of Jesus in their lives. They reject Him and do not want him to be the king in their lives. They belong to the category of people who shouted ‘crucify Him” Shall we take some time to reflect to which group we belong?

Those who love Him, obey Him and take some risks to invest their time, talent and money to earn more souls so that the Master will be pleased.

Those who continue to serve the Lord without any zeal to work for Him

Those who do not wish to accept Him as their Lord, Master and King
