Health Care
These tribals had been suffering very much by many diseases and were even dying for want of proper medical facilities. Hence our missionaries began to provide free medical aid to them. At first the mission house served as the medical centres. People from very interior parts of the hills came to know about it and started coming in large numbers to our mission houses for medical help.
So the medical centres were built in addition to the already existing mission houses where medical aid was provided from the very beginning. At present we have eleven such medical centres where our doctores and nurses are giving treatments to the sick people. Patients having serious illness are being sent to hospital to get help from specialists in the nearby cities in the plains after first aid. Often free medical camps are arranged with specialists. The medical needs are in plenty and so we need more financial help. Please uphold us by your prayers and liberally contribute for this venture.
Education
When the missionary work started in the hamlets of Kalrayan Hills, the tribals there were illiterates. To eradicate illiteracy night schools were started for both adults and the children in the mission houses. Our missionaries could teach them only in the nights as the people go to the fields for work during the day time.
The tribal children who got education in the night schools needed further education in schools like the other children in the plains of our country. As there was not even a single school in these tribal areas, we began to start schools also in the hills. At present we have a Higher Secondary School and an English medium Primary School at Serapattu, a High school at Gurukilamoor, a High school at Tharisana Nagar and six primary schools in some other villages. More than 2935 children are getting school education and they are in no way inferior to the other schools in the district.
Good Shepherd Tribal Children Hostels
The tribal children who wish to learn in our schools from very interior hamlets of the hills cannot study as day scholars as they don't have transport facilities or even proper roads for safe journey from their houses to the schools. So the need for the construction of hostels was met and now more than 1353 children are staying and studying. There is a heavy rush for admissions in these hostels. But unfortunately now we are not in a position to admit more owing to our financial difficulties. We have been providing food and accomodations in these hostels for the children free of cost, as they are unable to pay anyting due to their poverty. These expenses are met by the generous contributions of some of our well-wishers. We need more support for this noble cause that more tribal children can be admitted in our hostels. We solicit your earnest prayers and kind support.
