Our response to the question ‘Who do you say I am?” at the beginning of this New Year, determines not only our values and life style but our destiny as well.
Jesus confronted the disciples with the question. “Who do you say I am?.”
He had spent much time with them. Now the time had come for them either to believe or deny His teachings. They had to identify Him as the son of God and the Saviour of the world or just reject Him.
What is our response?
We too have been listening to numerous teachings about Jesus. We attend church services and meetings.
What is our response?
Is He just a God who performs miracles?or Is He a God worthy of veneration or is He our savior?.
Though all the disciples had been close to Jesus all the time, it was Peter who declared that He was Christ. Yes only a few of us are privileged to get that revelation that He is our Messiah. He alone can deliver us from the power, presence and penalty of sin. He alone can restore us, heal us and take us to His kingdom.
When Peter said He was the Messiah, Jesus said, “on this rock, I will build the church.” Kingdom of God can be built on our faith affirmation and declaration that Jesus alone can save the world. So, it is imperative that we pray for many people to get such revelation so that His kingdom can be built.
In this New Year there may be many occasions for us to know about Jesus but may God grant us the divine Revelation to understand who Jesus is in our life. May He stay in our life as our savior.
Sometimes we enjoy the benefits without knowing the source. The man who was sick for 38 years didn’t bother to know the benefactor. He did not know that it was Jesus who healed him. We are like that. The question comes to us “who do you say I am?”. Is He going to continue as a provider or miracle worker or just a consolation in times of distress? Are we ready to receive Him and declare Him as the healer of our life and soul- our Messiah and Saviour?
