Christmas is a season of joy when everyone is ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus. While we are carried into the swirling gaiety of the season, it is right on our part to reflect on the purpose of His birth and our response to it. Who is Jesus to us that we are getting ready to celebrate His birth? He never asked us to celebrate His birth but He exhorted us to remember His death .On the day of the Last Supper He asked His disciples to partake of the supper in remembrance of Him. Jesus wants us to think of His death on the cross. The manger must take us to the cross, His death and our salvation. In the parable of the Tenants, the callous response to his birth is suggested. There is another response to His birth which is found in Luke 2:8-20. The passage depicts the right response to the birth of the savior.
“When the angels that announced the birth had left them, the shepherds said, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about” (Luke 2:16). They did not tarry but hurried and found the baby. They believed and acted on that. What they did after that is yet more marvellous. “When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about that child” (Luke 20:17) All those who heard this first-hand information were amazed. These poor shepherds were the first missionaries who shared the news of salvation with others. They met the savior and proclaimed to the world the way to be saved.
How do we react to the birth of the savior?
Do we share our joy with others?
The Word became flesh on the day of the First Christmas.
May His word be manifested in our lives.
